Rubi-Tele Hunting Reserve
Commitment of the Kiala-Inkisi Foundation to the Rubi-Tele Hunting Reserve
The Kiala-Inkisi Foundation and Congolese biologist Dalley-Divin are on a mission to protect the Rubi-Tele Hunting Reserve. This initiative aims to enhance conservation efforts in this vital ecosystem, which spans approximately 640,000 hectares and is located in the Bas-Uélé province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, not far from the village of Buta.
The Rubi-Tele Hunting Reserve is a unique and biodiverse area that serves as a crucial habitat for numerous species, including the endangered okapi (Okapia johnstoni) and the chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes). The okapi, with its striking stripes reminiscent of a zebra, is a vital indicator of the rainforest's health, while the chimpanzee plays a key role in the ecosystem's dynamics. Other notable wildlife in the reserve includes various antelope species, forest elephants, and a rich variety of bird species. ICCNmap
Our Objectives
Together with Dalley-Divin, our objectives for the Rubi-Tele Hunting Reserve include:
- Strengthening Protection: We will enhance anti-poaching initiatives by increasing the number of trained park rangers and equipping them with the necessary resources to effectively safeguard the reserve's wildlife.
- Scientific Research: We aim to conduct comprehensive scientific studies to monitor and better understand the diverse flora and fauna in the area, particularly focusing on the okapi and chimpanzee populations.
- Community Engagement: Engaging with local communities is essential. We will work to raise awareness about the importance of conserving biodiversity while promoting sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and local livelihoods.
- Sustainable Development: By fostering economic opportunities tied to conservation, such as ecotourism and sustainable agriculture, we hope to create a sustainable model that supports both wildlife protection and the well-being of the local population.
A Vision for the Future
Our vision is to create a balanced approach that not only protects the remarkable biodiversity of the Rubi-Tele Hunting Reserve but also empowers local communities to thrive alongside it. Together, we are committed to ensuring a sustainable future where the okapi, chimpanzee, and many other species continue to flourish in their natural habitat.
Join us in our mission to protect the invaluable treasures of the Rubi-Tele Hunting Reserve. With collaboration and dedication, we can make a significant impact on conservation efforts in this vital region.
Help Protect Okapis and Their Rainforest Habitat
We've launched a GoFundMe campaign to support vital efforts in safeguarding the okapis and their rainforest ecosystem. Your donations will fund habitat protection, anti-poaching initiatives, and community education programs.
Project Objectives:
- Recruit New Rangers: Hire 10 young rangers from local communities to strengthen reserve protection.
- Training and Capacity Building: Equip rangers with essential skills for anti-poaching, species monitoring, and reserve management.
- Improvement of Equipment: Provide vital gear, such as firearms, radios, uniforms, and GPS devices for patrol duties.
- Monitoring and Protection of Okapis: Establish regular patrols to monitor okapi populations and prevent poaching.
- Community Engagement and Education: Run awareness campaigns to involve local communities in okapi conservation.
Your support will help us take the next steps in developing long-term strategies to protect the okapis and their habitat.
