Kongo Parks

Our Mission
Founded in 2020, Kongo Parks is dedicated to the BaKongo people and active in the historic region of 'Wene Wa Kongo.' Our mission is to advance wildlife conservation and sustainable development across the Congo Basin. We focus on establishing new national parks, nature reserves, and wildlife conservancies in the Kongo Central, Kwilu, and Kwango provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; the Cabinda, Zaire, and Uíge provinces of Angola; and the Kouilou, Niari, Lékoumou, Bouenza, and Pool regions of the Republic of Congo.

A Vision for Sustainable Development
Wildlife Conservation and Community Development in the Inkisi River Valley
The Congo Basin is home to extraordinary natural beauty and cultural heritage across Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo, and Gabon. However, these nations face challenges rooted in colonial legacies that impede their full potential. We envision a future where precolonial borders are restored, and the BaKongo people are reunited. Addressing the fragmentation of the Congo River basin is crucial to this vision.
The former Wene wa Kongo is experiencing a critical shortage of wildlife, a situation exacerbated by years of civil war unrest, controlled hunting, and overpoaching. The combination of these factors has severely impacted animal populations, making it urgent to establish more designated national parks and initiate wildlife game breeding projects. Importing wildlife from Southern Africa and European zoos can significantly help address this shortage, enhance biodiversity, and support the ecological balance of the region.

At Kongo Parks, our focus is on improving the quality of life in the Inkisi River Valley while preserving our rich cultural heritage. Our approach encompasses three key areas:

  • Nature Conservation: Protecting and revitalizing our natural landscapes.
  • Agriculture: Implementing advanced and eco-friendly farming practices.
  • Housing: Enhancing living conditions through sustainable development.

Effective wildlife management is central to good governance and overall development. Engaging local communities is crucial, as it fosters a deeper understanding of wildlife's importance, ensuring that conservation efforts are both successful and sustainable.

Our Projects

Phase 1: Establishing Nature Reserves
We are launching the creation of ten nature reserves along the Inkisi River, from Kisantu to Ngidinga. These reserves, ranging from 25 to 25,000 hectares, will be strategically located in Kisantu, Mayidi, Lemfu, Kiniangi, Nzuma, Kimvemba, Kibinga, Ngidinga, Baka, and Mbanza-Bata. They will feature:

  • Eight Rainforests: Native tree species and wildlife reintroduction.
  • One Timber Bamboo Forest: Focused on sustainable timber production.
  • Two Savannah Reserves: Dedicated to big-game breeding.

These reserves will be integrated with local infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and agricultural organizations, creating green oases along the Inkisi River corridor. This initiative aims to enhance biodiversity and foster a sustainable environment.

Phase 2: National Park Reserve
In the next phase, we will work towards designating a national park reserve along the Inkisi River, extending between Kinanga (DRC) and Quingungo (Angola). This effort will further our commitment to preserving the region's natural heritage and promoting ecological balance.

Addressing Wildlife Management Challenges
The culling of healthy animals due to drought and overpopulation, as observed in Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe, is a troubling trend. Similarly, the euthanasia of surplus animals in European zoos underscores the need for more humane and sustainable solutions. At Kongo Parks, we are committed to addressing these challenges through innovative approaches and strategic partnerships.

Animal Reintroduction Programs
We plan to reintroduce species from European zoos into their natural habitats to restore balance to both forest and savannah ecosystems.

Collaborations for the Future
We seek to establish partnerships with key organizations and governments. These collaborations will be instrumental in achieving our goals and ensuring the success of our initiatives.
